The Delhi government's Directorate of Education (DoE) has taken a stand against misinformation, filing a police complaint regarding the spread of false claims about teachers being tasked with counting stray dogs. In a press conference, Education Director Veditha Reddy vehemently denied any such directive, emphasizing that teachers' roles are strictly academic. She highlighted the mischievous nature of the false narrative, which has caused confusion among both teaching and non-teaching staff.
The controversy began with a November 2025 order from the Education Department, which focused on the identification, vaccination, and sterilization of stray dogs to ensure student and public safety. However, the DoE clarifies that this order did not assign teachers any animal control duties. Instead, it aimed to educate schools on reporting stray dog-related complaints and preventing dogs from entering school premises.
Despite the clarification, videos of individuals impersonating teachers and counting stray dogs have surfaced on social media, prompting the DoE to call for immediate investigation and legal action. This incident underscores the importance of accurate information dissemination and the potential consequences of misinformation in public discourse.
